Art, it is said, is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires. And ever so often, it goes beyond that to something even more personal; it is about showing the way we experience the world. Architecture has always distinguished itself from other art forms because of its duality — functional as well as an aesthetic role, leaving behind monuments to moments in time that define the evolution of a place. Lawrence R. Armstrong straddles the intersection of both worlds with a creative genius and masterful touch and brings to life forms layered with beauty and meaning.

Lawrence R. Armstrong is the Chairman of a dynamic, international architectural firm — Ware Malcomb — a master artist and an award-winning architect. He received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Kent State University and spent a semester in Italy broadening his creativity in classical architecture and is a licensed architect in over 40 states. He is also a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) accredited professional through the USGBC (United States Green Building Council.)

A dedicated student of art all his life, his fascination, and his work are a complete embodiment of his renaissance approach to life. He has been able to blend the disciplines of his diverse background, the structured precision of architecture, and the expressive freedoms of art into a unique style and artform. His work in art and architecture is an ongoing exploration of layers, creating forms and figures from compositions in nature and the built environment. For Armstrong, layers are to be found everywhere: in space and time, in intellect, in emotion, from a piece of music, an event, a person, or mood, or in the synthesis of form. Lawrence’s work has appeared in several high-profile international art exhibitions in Europe, Asia, Canada, and the United States.

Lawrence R. Armstrong is well known for his strategic and visionary approach to design. His focus on creativity and innovation influence all his artistic endeavors utilizing a keen mind and unusual insight into his reimagination and interpretation of art and shapes into forms that resonate with mesmerizing artistic creativity and dynamic synergy. His work has been influenced by modern art and architecture such as Arnoldi, Warhol, Meier, and Eisenman and by ideas curated during his extensive travels to North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

In addition to the fantastic works that he creates, Armstrong continues to teach and learn. He has been a guest lecturer for USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, Graduate Real Estate Program. He was a Design Juror for the Fourth Year Integrated Design Project for Kent State University. Lawrence has been a speaker on a variety of panels for NAIOP and other commercial real estate groups. He has been published on several media platforms, including ArtTour International Magazine, OC Metro, Real Estate Business Online, Development Magazine, and Professional Report Magazine.

Lawrence R. Armstrong initially served as the CEO of award-winning international architectural firm Ware Malcomb before transitioning to Chairman’s role after 28 years of serving as CEO. For his accomplishments as CEO, he was recognized as an Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award Winner & National Finalist in 2008. He has been the recipient of numerous individual accolades, some of which are the Sandro Botticelli Prize, Certificate of Excellence at the 11th Artavita Contest, and ATIM’s Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art.

It is his hope that even as skylines change and buildings evolve, his works will continue to inspire all who encounter them — telling the tale of a master artist who left his mark on the fabric of our world and contributed his quota of beauty and meaning to our shared experiences.
